Notas de aula

Environmental problems

  • Le réchauffement climatique is global warming; le changement climatique climate change; la pollution pollution; la déforestation deforestation. La fonte des glaciers means melting glaciers, les espèces en danger endangered species and l’effet de serre the greenhouse effect. These words are related but do not name one identical process.
  • La sécheresse means drought and les inondations floods. They identify different hazards; naming a particular event does not establish its cause. Les déchets means waste or rubbish, not a guarantee about what can be recycled in a given place.

What can we do

  • Réduire, réutiliser, réparer and recycler mean reduce, reuse, repair and recycle. Trier les déchets means sort waste. Preventing waste and reusing an item differ from processing discarded material; local sorting instructions matter in real life.
  • Économiser l’eau, éteindre les lumières and utiliser les transports en commun name conserving water, switching off lights and using public transport. Je me déplace à vélo means I travel by bicycle. These are language examples, not a demand that every learner has the same choices or that one action solves every problem.

Different action verbs

Expressing obligation

  • Il faut plus infinitive, on doit plus infinitive and nous devons plus infinitive express necessity in these models. Chacun doit faire un effort uses singular doit; nous devons recycler uses plural devons.
  • Il ne faut pas gaspiller l’eau means one must not waste water. It does not mean there is no obligation to waste water. Match the subject and verb, keep the second verb in the infinitive and check exactly what ne…pas negates.

Conditional

  • On pourrait organiser une collecte can mean we could organise a collection when on refers to the proposing group. On can also be generic one/people. Pourrait is conditional; devrait means should and does not express exactly the same degree of suggestion.
  • Si j’étais ministre, je ferais… uses imperfect plus conditional for this hypothetical role. Si j’ai le temps, je participerai uses present plus future for a possible future condition. The presence of si alone does not mean every sentence takes the same tense pattern.

Compare condition patterns

Social issues

  • La pauvreté, le chômage, la faim, le racisme, les inégalités and la guerre name poverty, unemployment, hunger, racism, inequalities and war. They describe issues or conditions rather than character judgements about individuals.
  • Les personnes sans abri names people without housing and les personnes réfugiées refugees. Use respectful person-focused examples. Learners may discuss imagined situations and need not disclose personal hardship or experiences of conflict; this vocabulary lesson does not determine legal status.

Charity and help

  • Une association caritative means a charity or charitable organisation. Le bénévolat is voluntary unpaid activity, faire un don to make a donation and collecter de l’argent to raise money. A contribution of time is different from a financial donation.
  • Original example: L’association organise une collecte de vêtements. Des bénévoles trient les vêtements. Identify the stated activity, clothes collection and sorting, without assuming money is requested or success guaranteed. This is fictional language practice rather than a real appeal.

Opinions

  • À mon avis, la mairie devrait augmenter la fréquence des bus expresses a view that the local council should increase bus frequency. C’est un problème grave states a judgement; parce que can introduce a supporting reason.
  • Keep proposals specific and distinguish an individual, school, association or government role. Renewable solar or wind energy is not synonymous with no impacts or constant output. This French lesson teaches the wording of a proposal, not a quantitative comparison or universal policy prescription.

Time words

  • Original school account: L’année dernière, notre collège a organisé une collecte. Maintenant, nous réutilisons les sacs. L’année prochaine, nous organiserons un atelier de réparation. The perfect, present and future connect a coherent fictional account.
  • Dans l’avenir, maintenant, déjà and bientôt mean in the future, now, already and soon. Read the complete construction and context; déjà alone does not identify one grammatical tense. Keep events, actions and reasons with the correct time frame.

Original fictional workshop notice

  • Vendredi, de 14 h à 16 h, un atelier de réparation aura lieu à la bibliothèque. Il faut s’inscrire avant mercredi. Aucun don d’argent n’est demandé. This is an invented school reading text, not an actual event or appeal.
  • The workshop takes place at the library on Friday from 14 h to 16 h. Registration is required before Wednesday, and no money donation is requested. Distinguish repair from recycling and the event day from the registration deadline.
