Notas de aula

Hobbies

  • Ich spiele Fußball, Tennis or Basketball names a game; ich spiele Gitarre, Klavier or Schlagzeug an instrument activity. Ich höre Musik means I listen to music, ich sehe fern I watch TV, ich schwimme I swim, ich fahre Rad I cycle and ich treffe Freunde I meet friends.
  • In these activity expressions the noun follows the verb without a preposition such as zu. This is different from a zu-infinitive construction. Fernsehen is separable in ich sehe fern but remains together in ich möchte fernsehen. An article can occur in other instrument contexts, so the model does not ban every article.

Frequency

  • Oft often, manchmal sometimes, selten rarely, immer always and nie never are frequency words. Jeden Tag means every day and einmal pro Woche once a week. These describe how often, without every word naming a fixed count.
  • Am Wochenende can mean at a particular weekend or at weekends depending on the sentence; morgen means tomorrow here. Distinguish frequency from a date or time reference. Original model: Samstags treffe ich Freunde.

Opinions

  • Ich finde den Film spannend means I find the film exciting; langweilig boring and lustig funny provide other possible descriptions. An opinion is attributed to its speaker, not an objective requirement that every learner share it.
  • Ich spiele gern Fußball, weil es Spaß macht uses the standard written verb-final weil pattern. Conversational weil with verb-second order also exists, but the written construction requested in this lesson places finite macht at the end. Weil gives a reason rather than an example or a date.

Gern, lieber, am liebsten

  • Ich spiele gern Tennis, ich spiele lieber Fußball als Tennis and am liebsten spiele ich Basketball express enjoyment, preference and strongest preference. Gerne is also valid for gern.
  • Am liebsten is one opening constituent; finite spiele follows before ich. German second position counts constituents rather than words: am Wochenende is also one opening phrase. Quantity expressions mehr and am meisten do not automatically mean the same as preference.

Invitations and plans

  • Hast du Lust, ins Kino zu gehen? invites someone to the cinema. Ja, gern accepts; leider kann ich nicht declines when the action is understood; wann treffen wir uns? asks when to meet. The noun Lust introduces the zu-infinitive construction in the invitation.
  • Morgen gehe ich schwimmen and morgen werde ich schwimmen gehen can both refer to tomorrow. The first uses present with future reference and the second Futur I. Werden is not limited to a near future, and not every future plan needs it.

Match the invitation and response

Music

  • Die Musik music, der Sänger a male singer, die Sängerin a female singer, das Konzert concert and die Band band are useful vocabulary. Pop, Rock and Rap name genres here. Use grammatical labels for the intended reference rather than infer identity from an image or name.
  • Original model: Ich höre gern Musik, aber ich spiele kein Instrument. The speaker enjoys listening but does not play an instrument. Track the contrast introduced by aber rather than treating music listening and performance as identical.

Separate listening and performance

Sport vocabulary

  • Die Mannschaft is team, das Spiel match or game, das Training training, gewinnen win and verlieren lose in the stated sport context. Spiel and gewinnen have other uses outside a sport report.
  • Original report: Unsere Mannschaft hat das Spiel gewonnen. Das Training war am Freitag. Hat…gewonnen is perfect; war simple past sein. The text states this team’s result and training time rather than a general rule about sport.
