பாட குறிப்புகள்

Describing yourself

  • Je m’appelle… introduces a name and j’ai quinze ans an age. Je suis calme uses être for an adjective, while j’ai les cheveux courts and j’ai les yeux verts use avoir for these descriptions. A learner may invent the person and details.
  • Appearance is vocabulary rather than a value ranking. Verts and courts agree with plural nouns; marron remains unchanged in les yeux marron. Do not infer a person’s personality, gender identity or ability from hair, height or eye colour.

Personality

  • Sympa, drôle, timide, généreux/généreuse, bavard/bavarde, têtu/têtue, patient/patiente and gentil/gentille can describe a person. Drôle can mean funny or odd depending on the full sentence; familiar sympa usually has the same masculine/feminine form.
  • Très, assez, un peu and trop modify descriptions. A fictional speaker’s adjective is not a diagnosis or a label for a classmate; judge meaning and agreement rather than treating appearance or one observed action as proof of character.

Family

  • La mère/le père, le frère/la sœur, l’oncle/la tante, le cousin/la cousine and les grands-parents name relationships. Mes parents normally means my parents in the stated family context; parents can also mean relatives in another context.
  • An explicit example can say Je n’ai ni frère ni sœur : je suis enfant unique. Family forms and relationships vary. Use an imagined portrait if preferred, and do not infer a household structure from a name or photograph.

Possessive adjectives

  • Mon/ma/mes, ton/ta/tes and son/sa/ses follow the grammatical noun phrase and the possessor’s person/number. Son frère can mean his brother or her brother; the form son does not reveal the possessor’s gender.
  • Use mon/ton/son before a feminine vowel-initial noun or silent h: mon amie, son amie. Amie remains feminine, so mon amie est gentille. Compare ma meilleure amie, where the immediately following adjective begins with a consonant. Leur maison is singular, leurs maisons plural.

Être and avoir

  • Être: je suis, tu es, il/elle est, nous sommes, vous êtes, ils/elles sont. Avoir: j’ai, tu as, il/elle a, nous avons, vous avez, ils/elles ont. Read the full form and subject.
  • French uses avoir for age: elle a seize ans. Être describes an adjective state here: elle est calme. Vous may be formal singular or plural depending on context; ils ont and ils sont express different verbs.

Adjective agreement

  • Petit/petite/petits/petites illustrates a common pattern, but not every adjective takes a new e or s. Timide already ends in e; beau/belle and blanc/blanche change irregularly. Grands is masculine plural and grandes feminine plural.
  • Ordinary colour adjectives such as verts agree in les yeux verts, while marron is invariable in les yeux marron. Check the actual adjective and intended noun rather than applying a universal add-e/add-s rule.

Friends and relationships

  • Un ami/une amie means a friend. Copain/copine can mean friend or boyfriend/girlfriend depending on context; the word alone does not establish a romantic relationship. Bien s’entendre avec means get on well with, and se disputer argue.
  • Original portrait: Lina dit : « Mon frère s’appelle Noé. Il a seize ans. Il est calme. Son amie Zoé est bavarde. » Noé is Lina’s brother; Zoé is named as Noé’s friend. Son amie remains feminine and does not identify Zoé as Lina’s sister.

Singular and plural possessive reference

  • Notre famille is singular, nos parents plural; leur maison is singular and leurs maisons plural. These forms describe the grammatical noun phrase and do not impose one household arrangement.
  • In a fictional text, track the named speaker and the immediately described person before interpreting son, sa or ses. A single form such as son can refer to either a male or female possessor; context supplies that information.
