Ghi chú bài học
Daily routine
- Ich stehe um sieben Uhr auf means I get up at seven; ich ziehe mich an I get dressed; ich gehe ins Bett I go to bed. Aufstehen and anziehen separate in these finite main clauses. With ich möchte aufstehen or weil ich aufstehe, the verb stays together.
- Ich wasche mich uses accusative mich. Ich putze mir die Zähne uses dative mir because die Zähne is the accusative object. Accusative reflexives include mich, dich, sich, uns, euch, sich; first/second singular dative forms are mir and dir. These grammatical features should not be reduced to one case list.
Distinguish routine constructions
Time and sequence
- Zuerst first, dann then, danach afterwards, später later and schließlich finally in a sequence organise a routine. Schließlich can mean after all in another context; interpret the complete sentence.
- Um halb acht means at 7:30; um Viertel nach acht at 8:15; um Viertel vor neun at 8:45. Halb refers towards the next named hour. These everyday forms require morning/evening context; a numeric 24-hour expression can be explicit.
Convert the everyday time expression
Meals
- Das Frühstück is breakfast, das Mittagessen lunch or the midday meal and das Abendessen the evening meal. Die Pause means a break, not a meal name. Household routines and food choices vary; the words do not set a universal national timetable.
- Ich esse means I eat, ich trinke I drink and ich nehme I take or have in an ordering context. Finite verb forms follow the intended subject: ich esse, du isst and wir essen.
Match meal names
Food and drink
- Das Brot bread, der Käse cheese, das Hähnchen chicken on a food menu, der Fisch fish, das Gemüse vegetables, das Obst fruit and der Apfel apple name foods. Gemüse and Obst usually function as collective singular mass nouns in these models.
- Die Milch milk, das Wasser water, der Orangensaft orange juice and die Wurst sausage name further foods and drinks. German nouns take capitals; an isolated food label does not establish a dietary requirement or a cultural stereotype.
Identify food words in the menu context
Healthy eating
- Gesund healthy, ungesund unhealthy, vegetarisch vegetarian, fettig fatty/greasy, süß sweet and ausgewogen balanced are descriptive vocabulary. Vegetarian and vegan are not identical categories; fettig does not imply every dietary fat is unhealthy.
- Original opinion: Ich esse gern abwechslungsreich, weil mir verschiedene Gerichte gefallen. The speaker says they enjoy varied dishes; weil introduces the reason and places gefallen last in this clause. No fixed portion target or personal health plan is prescribed.
Read the attributed opinion
At the restaurant
- Fictional request: Ich möchte ein Glas Wasser, bitte. Die Speisekarte is the menu; die Rechnung the bill in a payment request. Rechnung can mean a calculation or invoice elsewhere, so context matters.
- Als Vorspeise means as a starter, als Hauptgericht as a main course and als Nachtisch as dessert. Guten Appetit! means enjoy your meal. Bitte and context help make a request polite; ich möchte alone does not guarantee a polite tone.

Quantities
- Ein Glas Wasser a glass of water, eine Flasche Wasser a bottle of water, ein Stück Brot a piece of bread and ein Kilo Äpfel a kilo of apples are ordinary quantity expressions without von. Identify the unit and substance separately.
- In Ich möchte ein Glas Wasser, neuter Glas takes accusative ein. In Ich möchte einen Apfel, masculine Apfel takes accusative einen. The form depends on the noun’s gender and grammatical case, not simply the presence of a quantity.
Choose a quantity expression
Opinions
- Ich esse gern or gerne Fisch means I like eating fish. Ich esse lieber Hähnchen als Fisch means I prefer eating chicken to fish. Ich esse am liebsten Gemüse means I like eating vegetables best.
- Gern/gerne, lieber and am liebsten express enjoyment, comparison and strongest preference. Am meisten often concerns greatest amount instead. A coherent language response may express an imagined preference rather than disclose a real personal diet.
Express a preference
