Gesund leben means live healthily, sich ausgewogen ernähren eat a balanced diet, regelmäßig Sport treiben do sport regularly, genug schlafen get enough sleep and Stress vermeiden avoid stress. Ich versuche, mich ausgewogen zu ernähren expresses a speaker’s aim.
These are language examples rather than a fixed routine. Viel Wasser trinken means drink a lot of water as a translation, but does not prescribe a quantity or imply that more is always better. No single sleep duration or water amount is required by this lesson.
Describe an aim
Health problems
Der Stress stress, der Alkohol alcohol and Tabak rauchen smoking tobacco are contextual vocabulary. WHO identifies tobacco use as harmful to health. This language lesson does not diagnose a person or provide a treatment.
Ich habe Kopfschmerzen means I have a headache; ich habe Bauchschmerzen I have stomach ache. Mir tut der Kopf weh uses singular tut for der Kopf; mir tun die Füße weh plural tun for die Füße. Mir is the dative affected person, and the symptom phrase gives no cause.
Match the verb to the body-part subject
Advice
Du solltest dich ausruhen uses a modal with bare infinitive. Es ist besser, sich auszuruhen uses a zu-infinitive, with zu inserted into the separable verb. These are sample advice constructions rather than individual clinical instructions.
Ich rate dir, dich auszuruhen means I advise you to rest. Dir is the dative recipient of raten, while dich belongs to reflexive ausruhen. Context and tone affect politeness; a conditional form does not automatically guarantee it.
Distinguish advice constructions
Volunteering
Ehrenamtliche Arbeit means voluntary work; freiwillig helfen stresses helping of one’s free will; anderen helfen help others, Kleidung sammeln collect clothing and ältere Menschen besuchen visit older people. Helfen takes a dative recipient.
Original model: Letzte Woche habe ich ehrenamtlich gearbeitet. Ich habe Kleidung gesammelt. Das hat mir geholfen, geduldig zu sein. Arbeiten forms perfect with haben and gearbeitet; helfen with haben and geholfen. The benefit is this fictional speaker’s report.
Read the fictional volunteer account
Charity events
Der Spendenlauf means charity run; das Wohltätigkeitskonzert charity concert; eine Wohltätigkeitsorganisation charity. Geld sammeln means raise or collect money and Geld spenden donate money, distinct from Geld ausgeben spend money.
Original model: Wir organisieren einen Spendenlauf, um Geld zu sammeln. Um…zu introduces the purpose and the comma separates the infinitive construction. This is fictional language practice without a real donation request or guaranteed outcome.

International events
Die Olympischen Spiele Olympic Games, die Weltmeisterschaft world championship, die Fußball-WM football World Cup, die Tour de France Tour de France, die Berlinale Berlin International Film Festival and der Eurovision Song Contest are useful event names. No current schedule, host or result is given.
Ich habe ein Spiel im Fernsehen gesehen means I watched a match on TV. Habe…gesehen is perfect; the same report can be expressed with other appropriate past constructions. An event’s potential benefit is not a guaranteed outcome for everyone.
Identify the event name
German-speaking world
Deutschland Germany, Österreich Austria, die Schweiz Switzerland, Liechtenstein Liechtenstein and Luxemburg Luxembourg name countries. Switzerland’s national languages are German, French, Italian and Romansh; a country is not necessarily monolingual.
German is also used in other places, including South Tyrol in Italy. Do not label Italy as having no German speakers, or infer an individual’s language or identity from nationality, appearance or a name. This list teaches country names rather than mapping every community.
Match the country names
Media
Die Nachrichten means news in this media context; die Zeitung newspaper; die Sendung broadcast or programme and die Presse the press. Nachrichten can mean private messages and Sendung a postal consignment in another context.
Original text: Gestern habe ich ein Spiel im Fernsehen gesehen. Meine Freundin hat einen Bericht in der Zeitung gelesen. Identify who watched and who read; both complete clauses give their own actor, action and medium.
